Chapter Twelve

A continuous smile graced Eve's lips over the next two weeks. She still couldn't believe her luck at how easily she and Grayson had flowed into a relationship. Even now, a soft melody hummed from her lips as she filed away this morning’s paperwork.

She didn’t turn around when she heard the soft click of the lock. Her body sensed Grayson to be the culprit, and her smile grew wider. While she wanted to keep their relationship private, Grayson had a different opinion. She didn't want the other employees to learn they were intimate. However, Grayson wanted to shout it to the world. Since Eve didn’t trust the sincerity of his commitment, she’d convinced him to stay silent. She might’ve lowered her guard and let the doubts fade away. However, she still didn’t believe her luck.

Grayson brushed the hair away from her neck. “Can I tempt you to sneak away with me to enjoy a long lunch this afternoon?”

Eve tilted her head to the side. “I can't. I already promised to meet Addison and Becca for lunch.”

Grayson wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her backside flush against his front. His desire pressed into her back. “You could cancel and tell them your boss has a pressing matter that requires your urgent attention.”

Eve turned around and wrapped her arms around his neck. “And what is so urgent that requires my attention?”

Grayson nipped at her lips. “A matter we cannot discuss at the office. We would need privacy to discuss the details.”

Grayson trailed a path of kisses after each button he undid. She wanted to melt right then, but she had to remain focused on business. Eve only permitted Grayson to seduce her after work finished for the day to keep her sanity. Each day that passed became more difficult to keep their secret hidden. Especially when she wanted to stop by his desk, run her fingers through his hair, press her lips against his for a chaste kiss, or stare longingly into his eyes while he spoke passionately about his latest project.

Once their workday ended, they couldn’t wait to be alone. They spent their evenings in passion-filled interludes that no longer made her blush. Each night began a new game of seduction, and Eve’s feelings grew stronger. She embraced every minute with Grayson, but she also held back, waiting for the inevitable to happen. The outcome would destroy her. However, she no longer cared. She had waited a lifetime for Grayson to hold her in his arms, and she cherished every single second with him.

The way Eve responded in his arms gave Grayson hope she would cancel her plans to spend the afternoon with him. Each day he tried to chip away her resistance to accepting them as a couple. His patience dangled by a thin thread. Every day became more difficult in hiding his love for Eve. Addison, Cade, and Becca knew they were a couple, but he wanted everyone to know Eve was his. He had fallen hard and didn't regret one damn minute of it.
